Officials in Texas say art expert Edmund ‘Ted’ Pillsbury killed himself with a gunshot to the head.
Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Patricia Laney said Wednesday that the March 25 death was a suicide. She said Pillsbury’s body was found beside his car in the county about 30 miles southeast of Dallas.
The death last month of the 66-year-old, who led Fort Worth’s Kimbell Art Museum for 18 years, was originally reported as apparently from a heart attack by Heritage Auction Galleries, where he had been working.
Heritage President Greg Rohan said the family originally told them the cause of death was apparently a heart attack. But he said the family confirmed earlier this week to Heritage that Pillsbury killed himself, asking the auction house to speak for them.
