UCLA’s season opener attracted several high-end recruits to the Rose Bowl on Saturday.
Among the players at the game who have already committed to UCLA were defensive tackle Wesley Flowers (Fresno Edison), defensive tackle Marquis Jackson (College of the Canyons), quarterback Brett Nottingham (Monte Vista) and center Tevin McDonald (Fresno Edison).
A number of uncommitted high-end recruits were also at the Rose Bowl. They included running back Malcolm Jones (Westlake Village Oaks Christian), defensive end George Uko (Chino Don Lugo), offensive lineman Chris Ward (Santa Ana Mater Dei), center John Haupt (Placentia El Dorado), guard Sil Ajawara (Rancho Santa Margarita Tesoro), running back Anthony Barr (Los Angeles Loyola) and defensive tackle Antwaun Woods (Woodland Hills Taft).
Two players who signed with UCLA last winter, linebacker Jared Koster and Taniela Maka, were also at the game. Koster had surgery for a sports hernia and will enroll this fall. Maka came up short on his SATs and hopes to qualify next month.
Also in attendance was Oaks Christian High quarterback Trevor Gretzky, son of Wayne Gretzky.
