And now for the weather...

Cold, gray skies enveloped New York City this morning but the rain that fell all day Thursday is nowhere to be seen.

Yet.

Forecasts call for drizzles most of the day today, although there’s supposed to be a window of dry skies between 6 and 10 p.m. With the first pitch of the American League Division Series scheduled for 7:57 EDT, it looks like the series may be able to start on time.

The conditions won’t be ideal for baseball though, with temperatures of 40 degrees and a wind-chill in the high 20s. Plus the rains are expected to return by 10 p.m., so it will be uncomfortable at Yankee Stadium in the final innings. And the players are already trying to put the weather out of their mind.

‘I don’t think it’ll be that cold when you get out there, to be honest,’ said John Lackey, tonight’s Angels starter. ‘In a big game like this, I think the last thing on my mind will be the weather.’

Added second baseman Howie Kendrick: You have to stay focused mentally. If you let it get into your mind, it will affect you. We’ll wear warm-weather gear, but it’s going to be cold. The pitchers and the hitters both have to deal with it.’

The probablity of rain Saturday night is 90 percent, says the National Weather Service.
