Kennedy Coach Dion Lambert will not unleash false bravado or make empty promises. He understands the challenge the 16th-seeded Cougars (4-6) face in playing top-seeded Birmingham (9-1) Thursday in a first-round playoff game is beyond formidable.
So Lambert is asking only one thing of his team this week: Don’t quit playing, no matter what happens.
‘These days, a lot of kids can defeat themselves before they even play the game,’ Lambert said. ‘But we have told them in the playoffs everyone has same record. If you’re in there, it’s a one-game elimination and everyone has a chance to win.
‘You want to go in there and play hard. Lay it all out on the field and what happens, happens. As long as I get my full effort from them, I’ll be happy with that.’
