Was left scratching my head after finding out that the Righetti boys’ basketball team lost to Paso Robles by one point over the weekend. As far as I was concerned, the Warriors were a lock to win the Pac-7 League championship and secure bragging rights for another year. Then, an unthinkable upset like this happens.... Go figure.

Order, however, was restored Tuesday. Righetti took care of business, defeating third-place Atascadero, 51-39, to move comfortably into first, two games ahead of everyone else with four left in the regular season. The only thing standing between the front-runners and a title is second-place San Luis Obispo on Friday.

Why is this important, you ask? Well, someone from down south is going to play these boys from up north come playoff time. The occasional update can’t hurt. The Warriors, after all, are ranked among the top 10 in the Southern Section Division II-A coaches’ poll. Click here, look at the teams they’ve played and then you’ll understand why Righetti is on the verge of clinching the league title.
