Ostler Named Top Sportswriter in California

Times sports columnist Scott Ostler was named the top sportswriter in California by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Assn.
Vin Scully of the Dodgers was named the state’s top sportscaster.
Former Raiders’ Coach John Madden was named the nation’s best sportscaster, with Frank Deford of Sports Illustrated named top writer. Jim Murray of The Times was one of four finalists for that award.
