The Inglewood Firemen’s Assn. will provide free, battery-operated smoke detectors to Inglewood senior citizens and the handicapped and will install them at no cost.
Capt. Dave Waldschmidt, president of the association, said the free smoke-detector program is designed mostly for single-family homes or small apartments, since most senior citizen complexes or condominium developments already have adequate fire detection systems.
To qualify for the detectors, residents must be at least 62 years of age or have a handicap that restricts their ability to leave the house during a fire.
