Chesebrough-Pond’s, the makers of Vaseline petroleum jelly, asked the Federal Trade Commission to set aside a strict series of advertising restrictions imposed on the firm 22 years ago. The firm asked the commission either to set aside the entire order or at least to allow it to make claims, banned in a 1963 directive, that it can now support with scientific evidence.
