Two Firms Named Employers of Year

The Broadway department store in Torrance and Sigmapower, a Carson electronics firm, have been chosen employers of the year by the Private Industry Council of Torrance, Lomita and Carson.
The nonprofit council, which trains and places the unemployed in private industry, honored the companies last week at a banquet in Torrance. Officials from the three cities attended the affair.
A council spokesman said Broadway was chosen because it hired and trained 19 unemployed people for sales positions. Sigmapower was selected for hiring two jobless people and teaching them the skills needed to work in electronics.
