Policeman’s Life Saved as Badge Deflects Bullet

MOBILE, Ala. — A policeman escaped possible death after his badge deflected a bullet aimed at his heart in a shoot-out with two assailants Monday.
Joseph Drews, 36, was hospitalized in stable condition with bullet fragments in his shoulder. Two suspects were in custody and were accused of shooting Drews after he stopped them for a traffic violation.
