Ward Heads Field at Coliseum

Supercross series leader Jeff Ward of Mission Viejo heads the list of riders who will compete tonight in the Miller Superbowl of Motocross at the Coliseum.
Ward, 23, a Kawasaki factory rider, holds a seven-point lead over Yamaha’s Broc Glover going into the 10th race of the 11-race series. Ward has earned 196 points, has won at Houston and is the defending Superbowl winner.
Glover, of El Cajon, has 189 points and is followed in the standings by Ron Lechien, Honda, 187 points; Rick Johnson, Yamaha, 183, and Johnny O’Mara, Honda, 172. The series will end Aug. 17 at the Rose Bowl.
Tonight, there will be 250cc and 125cc support class racing on a 3/4-mile track. The first heat is scheduled for 8.
The top threats in the 125cc support class are Suzuki riders Bobby Moore of Canyon Country and Mike Healey of Costa Mesa. Both graduated from the 80cc mini expert class.
