Status Headquarters

I was startled, amazed even, at Allan Cox’s review of “Human Behavior and the Quest for Status” by Robert H. Frank in the Sunday Book Review (April 21).
What a very innocent man, what a very sheltered (I am tempted to say dishonest, but who am I to judge) life Cox must live if the idea “that status is of the greatest consequence to us” is revelatory to him.
He can’t ever have been to Los Angeles surely, where the idea, in its quest for world domination, is headquartered.
