WAC, Holiday Bowl Alter Agreement

SAN DIEGO — Organizers of the Holiday Bowl and the Western Athletic Conference announced an agreement Monday that will both loosen and lengthen their ties.
The agreement extends the WAC’s contract with the bowl to 1996. But it also provides for years in which the Holiday Bowl may invite two at-large teams and the WAC champion may play in another bowl.
The WAC will play in as many Holiday Bowls as it would have under the contract that was to have expired in 1990, but the games will be spread over a longer period.
The previous arrangement guaranteed the WAC champion a berth against an at-large team.
Starting in 1985 and 1988, the bowl is not required to invite the WAC champion and the WAC champion is not required to go.
