San Diego Prep Baseball : Granite Hills’ Damon Hansel Named Player of the Year

SAN DIEGO — Catcher Damon Hansel of Granite Hills High School, a second-round selection by Pittsburgh in the amateur free-agent draft this week, has been named the San Diego Section baseball Player of the Year.
Other all-county first-team members are pitchers Willy Morris of Mira Mesa, John Hemmerly of Mission Bay and Robbie Adams of San Pasqual; catcher Danny Martinez of Patrick Henry; infielders David Woodhouse of Bonita Vista, Randy Green of San Pasqual, Larry Simms of Helix and Jim Tatum of Santana; outfielders Sam Aguirre of Hoover, Dan Rumsey of Mt. Carmel and Yale Fowler of San Pasqual and utilityman Todd Pratt of Hilltop.
Second-team members are pitchers Gary Fessia of Hilltop, Mark Warren of Valhalla and Mike Ponio of San Marcos; catcher Miah Bradbury of Mt. Carmel; infielders David Vega of Mar Vista, Frank Carey of Granite Hills, Ty Murphy of Hoover and Ron Howard of Vista; outfielders Bill Donley of Christian, Billy Miller of Bonita Vista and Frank Romero of Ramona and utilitymen Scott Middaugh of Patrick Henry and Jeff Barry of Santana.
Woodhouse, a junior, is the only first-team selection who is not a senior. Second-team members are seniors with the exception of juniors Bradbury, Murphy, Miller and Romero.
