GREENVILLE, Pa. — The Lutheran Church of America convention voted today to defrock the Rev. D. Douglas Roth, an activist pastor who joined with labor to dramatize the problems of unemployment, making him the second minister to lose his collar in the 23-year history of the LCA.
The Western Pennsylvania-West Virginia Synod of the Lutheran Church voted 499 to 33 to uphold a disciplinary panel’s recommendation in March to defrock Roth, former pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clairton, for violating the church’s constitution.
