A garage in Mira Mesa burst into flames Friday night after a car slammed into the the structure and sheared off a gas meter, a fire department spokesman said.
Irene Hartsook, 56, lost control of her car about 10 p.m. at the intersection of Reagan Road and New Salem Street. The car careened into the garage of a house on the 8000 block of New Salem Street.
Sparks from the crash apparently ignited the natural gas, the spokesman said. The occupants of the house were not home, and Hartsook was unharmed.
