RENO — A federal grand jury Tuesday indicted a Los Angeles man on charges stemming from the planting of a pipe bomb at Reno Cannon International Airport June 27.
Roger Dale Stockham, 38, who has a history of mental problems and run-ins with the law, was indicted for attempting to damage a building used in interstate commerce and possession of an unregistered firearm. He was arrested July 3 by FBI agents at California State University, Long Beach.
Authorities say that he called the Reno Gazette-Journal and the FBI on June 27 to say he had planted a bomb at the airport. At the same time, a janitor found a bomb in a trash can. Police defused the device, which they described as potentially lethal.
