The opening game of the world chess championship between title-holder Anatoly Karpov and challenger Gary Kasparov will be Sept. 3, the Soviet news agency Tass said. The first championship match between the two Soviet grandmasters had no limit on the number of games. It began nearly a year ago but was halted without a winner in February after 48 games. The new series will be limited to 24 games.
