La Canada Hires Firm to Study Development on Foothill Blvd.

The La Canada Flintridge City Council has hired a Pasadena-based consulting firm to study development of Foothill Boulevard, the city’s arterial highway.
Development along Foothill Boulevard has become the most controversial issue in the largely residential community.
The Arroyo Group, a firm specializing in planning and architectural design, was awarded a $75,000 contract Monday to complete a plan for the boulevard by the end of this year. The Arroyo Group was one of six firms to submit bids in June.
The plan will address such issues as commercial and residential land use, traffic circulation, parking, street lighting and financing of restoration.
Commercial activity in La Canada Flintridge is concentrated along a four-mile strip of Foothill.
The study and the formation in March of a Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Foothill Boulevard are an outgrowth of a controversial proposal by the Sport Chalet sporting goods company to build a shopping center at Foothill Boulevard and Angeles Crest Highway.
