In Dead Heads’ Wake

“Dead Heads Grateful for Big Treat--Nostalgia Rides High at the Band’s Southwestern Gig” by Janny Scott (Sept. 16), was a super story on the Grateful Dead’s Sunday concert at Southwestern College.
When their music invaded my office, I took a break from grading papers to view the scene from a lawn outside the stadium where there was dancing, hugging, skateboarding and thoughtful listening. The sun’s rays and the music had a relaxing effect on everyone.
I’m glad Janny described the activity within the stadium because black plastic around the fence obscured it. I even considered buying a $15 ticket, but the concert was sold out. Anyway, sound travels, and on the lawn I enjoyed all the vibes, plus the experience warmed my Scot heart.
Finally, it’s evident Dead Heads know how to party and how to have fun, which is OK. But, sadly, some made a negative impression on suburbia by leaving their litter on streets and lawns.
