No-Longer-Perfect Lakers Face Jazz; Lester Is Due Off Injured List Soon

SALT LAKE CITY — The Lakers, who lost their first game of the season at home Tuesday night, are back on the road again tonight to play the Utah Jazz.
Tipoff time is 6:30 p.m., California time (Channel 9), in the Salt Palace, where the Lakers have won 12 of 16 games since the Jazz franchise moved here from New Orleans in 1979.
The Lakers are close to making a roster change, which could happen when they return to the Forum to play Denver Friday night. Ronnie Lester, who is eligible to come off the injured list, will be returned to the active roster soon, which means that someone else must be dropped.
General Manager Jerry West said a trade is not likely because no other team has called to ask about a player, so it appears that the Lakers will be forced to waive a player when they decide to activate Lester.
Backup center Chuck Nevitt, who has played in only one of five games this season, may become the odd man out.
