Italian Girl Freed After Kidnapers Get Ransom

CATANZARO, Italy — A 17-year-old schoolgirl kidnaped 11 months ago was freed early Tuesday in the mountains of Calabria in the toe of Italy.
The release of Enza Rita Stramandinoli came three days after her family handed over the second and last installment of an 800- million lire ($450,000) ransom at a secret location in central Italy, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.
The girl, a doctor’s daughter, told reporters she had been held in the countryside in a hut made of branches, with her left foot chained to a tree.
