A Matter of Interest
In her review on page 13 of the Nov. 10 Book Review, Judy Bass says that a character in Rona Jaffe’s “After the Reunion” forgives her husband’s “sexual disinterest in her.” She’s committed an error that is becoming much too common, confusing “disinterest” with “lack of interest.” Don Juan was sexually disinterested--that is, perfectly impartial about whom he slept with. But he was certainly not sexually uninterested.
