The Nation : Big Cocaine Ring Broken

Federal agents arrested 27 members of a family and seized nearly 1,500 pounds of cocaine they said was worth about $2 billion. Authorities said the arrests--resulting from raids in New Jersey, New York, Florida and Puerto Rico--put a 10-year-old drug distribution ring out of operation. The ring allegedly was led by Gerardina Lopez Vanegas, of West Palm Beach, Fla., her brother, six of her children, several in-laws and other relatives, authorities said. They called it the second largest drug seizure in U.S. history.
