Cindy Scholefield of Malibu got four early birdies and finished with a three-under-par 70 on the Pebble Beach course to tie the qualifying record in the California Women’s Amateur Golf Championship.
The 25-year-old accountant, a former UCLA golfer, will lead a field of 32 qualifiers into today’s opening round of match play in the tournament which is in its 19th year. Scholefield’s 70 equaled the record set by the 1974 medalist, Amy Alcott.
