An inmate was stabbed seven times during a New Year’s Eve visit to the Folsom state prison chapel, bringing the number of stabbings at the facility to 215 in 1985, authorities said. Victor Serena, 30, serving 11 months for a parole violation in Merced County, was in serious condition at University Medical Center in Sacramento, according to Lt. T. J. Smith. Guards observed an inmate disposing of a knife apparently used in the assault. Officials investigating the stabbing said they have not yet filed charges against the inmate.
