Glendora : Jurisdiction Request Denied

Efforts by both Glendora and Azusa to claim jurisdiction over San Gabriel Canyon failed last week when the county Local Agency Formation Commission voted unanimously to deny their requests. Both cities had asked to have the canyon’s 65 square miles of national forest and recreation area placed in their sphere of influence, which is a prelude to annexation. The commission determines boundaries of cities, school districts and other agencies in Los Angeles County. A spokesman said the commission’s policy prohibits putting county recreational areas and national forest land under city jurisdiction.
