Monrovia : Teachers Get 10.7% Raise
The Monrovia Unified School District Board of Education and the Monrovia Teachers Assn. have approved a contract providing a 10.7% salary increase retroactive to Sept. 1, when the previous contract expired.
The contract also provides for a longevity bonus of $500 per year for teachers who have completed 20 or more years of service with the district and gives teachers a say in how some of the district’s revenues from the state lottery will be spent.
Monrovia teacher salaries have long ranked near the bottom of the 43 school districts in the county. Supt. Don Montgomery said the increase will move Monrovia teachers at the highest step up to about 30th. The board said its goal is to move Monrovia teachers to the county average within five years.
The contract package will cost the district $726,000, Montgomery said. The district’s annual budget is $14 million.
