The San Diego chapter of the American Institute of Architects has received two Presidential Citations, one from the American Institute of Architects and the other from the institute’s California Council, for it efforts to assist the residents of Normal Heights following a devastating brush fire last June 30.
The citation was presented in recognition of the chapter’s formation of a community design assistance team to provide planning and design services to the residents of the Mountain View district of Normal Heights in San Diego.
Headed by Joseph P. Martinez, the team included 24 architects, planners and designers who contributed more than 1,500 hours of work to aid the fire victims.
“We feel this Presidential Citation is a special honor since it is being given to only one other chapter, out of more than 300 chapters, in the country,” said Donnalee Hallenbeck, the chapter’s executive director.
