Harness Racing Begins at Los Alamitos

The harness-racing season will open at Los Alamitos tonight, beginning an expanded 42-week schedule this year in California.

The Los Alamitos winter-spring season will run for 55 nights, ending April 19. That will be followed by nine weeks at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds at Pomona, seven weeks in Sacramento, nine more weeks at Los Alamitos and six weeks at Pomona, where the season will end Dec. 13.

“This is the most complete harness program we have had in California in more than 10 years,” said Alan Horowitz, executive director of the Western Standardbred Assn.

Post time is 7:30 tonight for the first of 10 races at Los Alamitos. Race nights are Tuesday through Saturday.

The opening night feature is the $12,200 Inaugural Invitational trot. Noble Arnetta, who heads the eight-horse field, will be driven by Joe Anderson, who won over 100 races last year at Los Alamitos.
