LEMON GROVE — A 60-year-old man was killed Friday night when his car crossed the center divider on California 94 near Grove Street and collided with on-coming traffic, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Killed in the 6 p.m. accident was Richard Preston Cloyd of El Cajon, who lost control of his eastbound car for unknown reasons and crossed the dirt divider. His car collided with a westbound car driven by Daniel Henry Kirkland Jr., 26, of El Cajon.
After striking the Kirkland’s car, Cloyd’s auto crossed two more lanes before colliding with a van driven by Dorothy C. Manthorne, 47, of Daytona, Fla., the CHP said.
Cloyd was pronounced dead at the scene. Kirkland and Manthorne escaped injury.
