McDaniel Homers as Thousand Oaks Amasses 18 Hits in Defeat of Royal

Rob McDaniel of Thousand Oaks High hit a home run and was 3 for 5 to lead the Lancers to a 14-6 win over Royal in a Marmonte League game on Wednesday.
McDaniel’s teammates Ed Hall and Joey Sturges also were 3 for 5, combining for three doubles. The three accounted for half of Thousand Oaks’ 18 hits in the game.
Thousand Oaks improved its league record to 2-4 (10-9 overall), while Royal slid to 3-3 in league and 7-10 overall.
Camarillo 2, Westlake 0--Camarillo’s Travis Willis struck out six and didn’t walk a batter while pitching a two-hitter. Willis already has thrown two no-hitters this season and owns a 7-1 record after Wednesday’s win.
Camarillo scored once in the second inning when Brad Billups knocked home Jason McCarthy with a ground out. In the seventh, Bill Saylor doubled home Kevin Ochs.
Camarillo is 5-2 in the Marmonte League and 12-6 overall.
St. John Bosco 6, Crespi 4--St. John Bosco scored four runs on three infield singles in the third inning and went on to win the Del Rey League game. Despite 11 strikeouts, it was the first loss in league play for Chaminade starter Chris Spears (3-3 overall).
Crespi is 3-3 in league and 6-10 overall.
California Christian 16, Pilgrim Christian 7--Steve Anderson was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and teammate Anthony Ashley was 2 for 3 with two RBIs to lead California Christian to the Heritage League win.
Pitcher Michael Curl struck out 11 for California Christian.
High School Softball
First Lutheran 25, Oak Hill 4--Suzanne Stark was 3 for 3, including a double and a triple, and teammate Venessa Grubb was 3 for 3 as First Lutheran beat Oak Hills in a Liberty League game.
Stacy Whitman had three hits, including a double, and Norma Jimenez had two singles and a triple as First Lutheran improved its record to 2-2, 4-2 overall. Susan Baird (2-1) was the winning pitcher. Oak Hill is 0-4 in league.
Oakwood 10, Windward 9--In the bottom of the eighth inning, Capucine Rubin tripled, scoring Rachelle Willner to give Oakwood the Liberty League win.
Pam Smithline was the winning pitcher for Oakwood (5-1, 6-3 overall). Windward is 5-2 in league.
Notre Dame 12, Corvallis 5--Notre Dame scored 10 runs on seven hits in the seventh inning to win its third straight San Fernando Valley League game. Michele Petrello led the win with a home run and two doubles.
Notre Dame is 4-5 in league and 4-9 overall. Corvallis is 0-9 in league.
Alemany 24, Immaculate Heart 0--It wasn’t football, no matter what the score may have suggested. Alemany’s Robin Long (3 for 3) led the 17-hit onslaught, belting a grand slam and a three-run homer and driving in 10 runs.
Alemany is unbeaten in San Fernando Valley League at 8-0.
St. Genevieve 4, Louisville 1--Pitcher Regina Aguirre led St. Genevieve (7-2, 11-3), allowing five hits and striking out seven. Aguirre also had a single a double and two RBIs.
College Baseball
Cal State Northridge 4, Chapman 1--Jim Vatcher hit a two-run home run in the ninth, and Gary Williams was 2 for 4 with an RBI double to lead the Matadors to the win.
Cal State Northridge is 8-10 in CCAA and 16-19 overall.
High School Volleyball
Grant def. Sylmar, 15-8, 15-11, 16-14--Tad Meyers had 18 kills, while Jay Onga added nine to lead Grant, which is 4-2 in the East Valley League and 7-3 overall.
Chatsworth def. Birmingham, 15-2, 15-1, 15-4--Chatsworth, undefeated in the West Valley League at 6-0, had an easy time with Birmingham. Raphael Tulino had eight kills to lead Chatsworth.
Granada Hills def. North Hollywood, 15-5, 15-12, 15-6--John Lim and Joe Komsky combined for a dozen kills to lead Granada Hills to the Mid-Valley League victory.
Granada Hills is 10-0 overall and 6-0 in league.
