At the computer maker’s annual meeting, the anti-apartheid resolution was supported by less than 7% of the votes cast. Company officials continued to reiterate IBM’s parsimonious outlook for 1986, and Chairman-elect John Akers said it will reduce its hiring much more this year than last as it copes with a “demanding” economic climate.
