A drug test has revealed that Chilean soccer player Alessandro Hissis, a leading member of OFI of Crete, Greece, had “forbidden chemical substances” in his body, said an announcement from the Greek undersecretariat of sports, the organization responsible for all athletic activities in the country.
The announcement said that Hissis’ urine sample taken after a game April 13 was found to contain the substance by a laboratory in Cologne, West Germany.
The state-controlled Hellenic Radio TV 1 described the substance as mandraloni, a drug connected with anabolic steroids.
“I’m innocent. I have never taken any drugs,” Hissis said.
According to Greek sports regulations, if the athlete is found guilty of having taken forbidden drugs, he can be banned for two years and his team will lose two points (the equivalent of one victory) in the final league standings.
