Man Drowns While Wading in Lake Morena

A man wading across an East San Diego County lake drowned Thursday when he stepped into a deep hole, the Sheriff’s Department reported.
The man, 30, whose identity was withheld pending notification of his family, was crossing Lake Morena from the north shore to Goat Island about 10 a.m. with a friend, a department spokeswoman said.
The man stepped into the hole and disappeared, she said. His friend tried to find him in the murky water but failed. The man’s body was found at 3:40 p.m. after an extensive search.
