Bolivia freed 88 of the 162 union leaders, political activists and journalists arrested last week under a state of siege imposed to crush labor unrest. Among the 88 was Andres Soliz, correspondent for the French news service Agence France-Presse, Interior Minister Fernando Barthelemy told Bolivian radio. He said 54 of the 74 people still under detention have been sent into temporary, internal exile in Bolivia’s northern jungle. The state of siege was imposed after thousands protested plans to close state-owned tin mines.
