No Indictment Issued in Clemson Assault Case

A Pickens County, S.C., grand jury ruled Tuesday there was insufficient evidence to indict four present and former Clemson football players on claims they allegedly sexually assaulted the mother of another player.
The grand jury, after more than 7 1/2 hours of testimony, returned no bills of indictment on three separate charges against Clemson tailback Kenny Flowers, defensive back A.J. Johnson and former players Duke Holloman and Craig Crawford. The charges were criminal sexual assault, kidnaping and larceny.
Attorney Bruce Byrholdt, who represented the unidentified woman, said he thought the “grand jury system had been abused today.”
It is “unheard of” for defendants to testify before a grand jury, he said, and his client is considering filing civil suits against the players.
