Manhattan Beach : Dennis Becomes Mayor

As part of the City Council’s regular rotation of duties, Jan Dennis took over as mayor on Tuesday from Gil Archuletta, who returns to his seat on the council after serving nine months as mayor.
In her nine-month term, Dennis said she will ask the city staff to present monthly progress reports to the council on local projects, including large developments outside the city that will affect the community. She also announced that her office hours at City Hall are 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Dennis, on the council since 1984, said she will work to preserve residential areas and help keep the business community vital and growing.
Councilman Bob Holmes was elected mayor pro tem. He will take over as mayor when Dennis steps down in June, 1987.
