Park (Pepper) Adams, 55, one of the great baritone saxophone players in jazz, died today at his home in New York after a long battle with lung cancer, his wife reported.
Adams, a hard-driving soloist, had performed with Benny Goodman’s and Stan Kenton’s big bands and in small combos since the early 1950s. Despite his illness, he performed as recently as last month at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
