A story represented by the Pittsburgh Pirates as having been written by first baseman Sid Bream and published by the Pittsburgh Press was actually authored by team publicist Joe Gallagher, the newspaper reported.
The newspaper would not have printed the story last Friday had it known that Bream wasn’t the author, said Angus McEachran, the newspaper’s editor.
“It was unintentional if I misled them,” Gallagher said. “I might have been a little casual in explaining the process, and if so, I apologize.”
Bream said, “About one-tenth of the article is exactly what I said.” The article encouraged fans to attend more games, saying larger crowds help the Pirates.
