The San Diego City Council on Monday unanimously approved noise standards for private airplanes using Montgomery Field between 6:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.
The new standards limit the airplanes to 88 decibels--the noise level of large trucks on a street--during those hours.
Previously, no noise limit had been in effect during the day and evening until 11:30 p.m., and planes using the airport were measured at up to 100 decibels, said an aide to Councilman Ed Struiksma, whose district includes Montgomery Field.
The daytime restrictions, which go into effect in 45 days, complement existing nighttime noise restrictions that require planes not to exceed 70 decibels between 11:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m., the aide said.
