Judge Bernstein’s comments in the American Lawyer article regarding Rose Bird reinforces what we should all be grateful for. We have a unique, honest judiciary in California--one that is not influenced by politicians.
It is clear that our chief justice is a judicial officer first, last and foremost, and not a politician, which is much to her credit and our benefit. Chief Justice Bird has proven that she will not bend to political pressure, even in the form of a “friend’s advice.”
