Montana residents and National Guardsmen piled sandbags on flood-battered dikes of the swollen Milk River, where torrential rain forced more than 120 people out of their homes. The flooding was the worst in 34 years in northern Montana. One person drowned and hundreds of head of livestock died. The weather service predicted high water would persist for up to a week. The Milk was expected to peak at about 5 feet above flood stage at Glasgow, a city of 4,500.
