The State Department said it is looking into allegations of possible misuse of funds by the U.S. Embassy in Switzerland. The statement was prompted by a Washington Post story reporting that an investigation is under way into whether Faith Ryan Whittlesey, the U.S. ambassador to Switzerland, misspent money from an $80,000 entertainment fund raised by private donors. According to the Post, Whittlesey spent nearly all of her representational fund, intended for the entertainment of citizens of the host country, to entertain leading American conservatives from government and private industry.
