Great Truths to Be Found in Life, Beer

I’m charmed by the piece, “Beer and Browsing: Eagleville’s Pool Hall-Library” by Charles Hillinger (Aug. 22). Bravo to Bertie Worlow and husband Jim for providing an intellectual and social haven for the town’s 60 inhabitants. I can’t help feeling that Archibald MacLeish, the poet who once turned librarian of Congress, would have been pleased. For MacLeish once observed:
Things that you will never learn from books,
But from life and beer, you will discern great truths.
