Unbeaten Tappiano pulled away in the stretch for a 3 1/2-length victory in the $120,000 Matron Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Belmont Park.
Ridden by Jean Cruguet, Tappiano won her third consecutive start by completing seven furlongs over a muddy track in 1:23 2/5. She earned $72,000 and returned $3.60, $2.80 and $3.20.
Sea Basque, ridden by Randy Romero, finished second by half a length over Daytime Princess, ridden by Jacinto Vasquez.
