Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger joined forces with Education Secretary William J. Bennett in a campaign to recruit military retirees for the nation’s classrooms. Both signed an agreement at the Department of Education pledging to cooperate in the drive to encourage former military personnel to consider a second career as teachers, principals and superintendents. Bennett said schools should relax “bureaucratic obstacles” to hire military retirees who lack paper credentials but who are well-versed in a subject.
