A moderate earthquake jolted communities along the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, but no major damage or injuries were reported, authorities said. The temblor, described as a “quick, sharp jolt,” occurred at 10:17 p.m. Friday and was centered in the hilly country east of Oakland. It measured 3.8 on the Richter scale, according to the University of California seismographic station in Berkeley. Police in Alameda and Contra Costa counties received numerous calls from alarmed residents.
