Neil R. Austrian, chairman and chief executive of Showtime-The Movie Channel Inc., said he will resign his post at the end of the year.
Austrian said he was leaving the cable company, a division of Viacom International, that he has headed since 1984 to “pursue my entrepreneurial nature,” although his exact future plans remained unclear.
A replacement has not yet been named, and Austrian said he would stay on until early next year if necessary.
