TOKYO — Kozo Shoda doubled home two runs in the fourth inning to lead the Hiroshima Toyo Carp to a 2-1 win over the Seibu Lions Sunday in the Japan World Series.
The best-of-seven series opened Saturday in Hiroshima, but the game was called because of a time limit tied at 2-2 after 14 innings.
Meanwhile, the Japanese League’s regular season ended Sunday with the fourth-place Nippon Ham Fighters sweeping a doubleheader from the fifth-place Lotte Orions 2-1 and 6-2.
Pat Putnam hit a two-run homer, his 25th of the season, for Nippon in the first game.
